Horses needing new homes
I am often contacted by people who need a new home for their horses, unfortunately I can't take them all so I have created this page so that those of you that might be able to offer help can do so.
Sultan, 15.2hh, 11yrs, Gelding
Dales x friesian, barefoot, can live out all year with company.
A very good boy. Steady character. Quiet, gentle, bit of an introvert. Very nice to ride once you know him, lots of fun and although not the boldest of characters he does his very best. Does not pull, bolt, buck, rear, nap. Very good in traffic.
likes:
- jumping, a bit of schooling, obstacle courses.
- rides out, alone or with others, or with bikes/prams
- people, children. Likes to just hang out.
- clicker, new problems, space to think, Treats.
- long reigning, and pulling a tyre around.
dislikes
- rocky tracks – he is barefoot
- loading (not got a trailer so have’nt tried yet)– although hes been doing v.well with his obstacles, and did load well in the past.
- parelli/natural horsemanship rope swinging stuff, although I do still use the odd bit of twiseling of the rope end to get him to walk on.
- having his feet picked out and girth done up too quickly.
Requires
Someone with positive energy, patience time to put into keeping him fit, the more he does the more confident he is about all things. He responds well to clicker, and really would suit someone with some experience who perhaps wants to have lots of hacking doesn’t mind being on the slower horse , maybe the odd show, play and be creative with him.

Arthur
Was a french rescue mare’s unplanned foal, both destined for meat - 18 month old chestnut cob gelding looking for a loving home (ideally with his mother – see below, but will separate). He is around 14.1hh now with amazing bone, strong, wonderful inquisitive and playful nature. Unspoilt and will lead and has had his feet trimmed a few times, but little else has been done with him. We think he may be half Breton but not sure. We think he will mature around 15hh to 15.1hh. He is calm, does not tend to panic and would appear to have a sense of humour. Has been in a stable, but lives out in a herd. His one vice – he chews manes and tails. So might be an idea to keep him on his own for a while to break the habit. He is in Ringwood, Hampshire. He was made quite famous in the IHDG and was ‘Mr April’ 2008! Possible loan or sale £750, but home more important than price.
Guinevere
French rescue mare around 13.2hh and around 17 years old we think. She was destined for the meat factory and was, unbeknownst to us, pregnant. We think she has had a number of foals, Arthur being the last. She was in the local papers and some further afield highlighting the plight of the French meat horses. She is a beautiful mare and is incredibly sweet. Would make a great companion for young horses, or any horse. She is not a dominant mare. She is available for long term loan.
